Des Moines Buccaneers forward Julian Napravnik has committed to play college hockey at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
"They touched base with me all the time. It’s really nice that they are so interested in me and communicated with me very often,” said Napravnik. “I visited in the summer and I really liked it. I think I’m a fast player and that’s what they’re looking for. A dynamic and fast player, good control with the puck. That’s my game style.”
Napravnik (16-15-31 in 42 GP) is third on the Buccaneers in scoring with 31 points (16G, 15A) in 42 games and is tied for the team lead in goals. He has been especially hot as of late, with 14 points (7G, 7A) in 12 games since the beginning of February.
The Hessen, Germany native will join USHL alumni and fellow German natives Marc Michaelis (Green Bay Gamblers) and Parker Tuomie (Sioux Falls Stampede) in Mankato, and Napravnik said that was a factor in choosing to become a Maverick.
“It’s a part of my decision," he said. "It’s great to have them again on my team. I played with them on the German program where I played. I asked them about the university.”
Prior to his time in the USHL, Napravnik played for Jungadler Mannheim in Germany. With his announcement, he becomes the 16th player to have played for Des Moines this season to commit to a Division I school.
