NHL roundup: Kings end skid with win in Philly

PHILADELPHIA -- Adrian Kempe and Tyler Toffoli scored third-period goals, and the Los Angeles Kings leaned heavily on their top-ranked penalty kill in a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night.

Alec Martinez and Trevor Lewis also scored for the Kings, and Jonathan Quick turned aside 36 shots as Los Angeles ended a four-game road trip with a win, snapping a three-game losing streak. The Kings killed off five of their six penalties.

Jakub Voracek scored the lone goal for the Flyers, who had their six-game win streak snapped. Brian Elliott (21 saves) took his first defeat since Dec. 2.

BRUINS 7, BLUE JACKETS 2

BOSTON -- Three rookies played key roles, as Danton Heinen and Jake DeBrusk both had a goal and two assists and Charlie McAvoy recorded a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, an assist and a fight, helping Boston rout lifeless Columbus.

Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Backes added a goal and an assist each, and Torey Krug also scored for the Bruins, who snapped a two-game losing streak and finished 1-1-1 on a three-game homestand.

Josh Anderson and Seth Jones scored for the Blue Jackets.

DEVILS 5, DUCKS 3

NEWARK, N.J. -- Stefan Noesen scored off a scramble at 15:53 of the third period to lift New Jersey to a come-from-behind victory over Anaheim.

Noesen's tiebreaking goal ruined the homecoming of former Devils center Adam Henrique, who had a goal and an assist in his first game against his old team since New Jersey traded him to Anaheim for defenseman Sami Vatanen on Nov. 30. Noesen iced the game with an empty-net goal at 19:53.

Miles Wood also scored twice for the Devils, while Jesper Bratt found the back of the net and Brian Boyle picked up three assists. Vatanen earned an assist, his first point since the trade.

Ryan Getzlaf and Jakob Silfverberg scored for the Ducks, and Josh Manson contributed two assists.

OIERS 5, SHARKS 3

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Edmonton got two goals from Ryan Strome, including the 10,000th NHL goal, en route to a victory over San Jose.

Oilers goalie Cam Talbot won his second in a row since returning from a stint on injured reserve, making 18 saves. Sharks goalie Martin Jones remained stuck on 99 career wins. The Oilers put 29 shots on goal.

Patrick Maroon, Mark Letestu and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for the Oilers. Joe Pavelski, Tomas Hertl and Marcus Sorensen scored for the Sharks.

AVALANCHE 4, PENGUINS 2

DENVER -- Tyson Barrie scored two goals, Semyon Varlamov had 30 saves, and Colorado beat Pittsburgh.

J.T. Compher and Mikko Rantanen also scored and Sven Andrighetto had two assists for the Avalanche, who swept the season series from the two-time reigning Stanley Cup champions.

Chad Ruhwedel had a goal and an assist, Evgeni Malkin also scored and Matt Murray had 33 saves for the Penguins.
