Lightning forward Ryan Callahan undergoes hip surgery

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Callahan underwent a successful hip surgery on Tuesday, and is expected to return in five months.

The procedure was to repair a labral tear in Callahan’s right hip. He will miss the World Cup of Hockey in September and October.

Callahan played 73 games for the Lightning in 2015-16, recording 10 goals and 28 points. He also skated in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games, notching two goals and four points.

Stralman returns for Lightning, Bishop and Callahan out

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman returned to the lineup for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals against Pittsburgh, while goaltender Ben Bishop and forward Ryan Callahan are out.

Stralman hadn't played since suffering a non-displaced fracture of his left leg on March 25.

Bishop injured his left leg in the first period of Game 1 on Friday. The Vezina Trophy finalist said the injury was not as bad as initially feared but he will miss his first game of the playoffs. Andrei Vasilevskiy, who made 25 saves after replacing Bishop in a 3-1 victory in Game 1, will make the second postseason start of his career.

Callahan will sit out Monday night while battling the flu. The forward was involved in a controversial boarding call in Game 1 when he hit Kris Letang from behind. Callahan received a major penalty but received no supplemental discipline from the league.

Ryan Callahan will not be suspended for hit on Kris Letang

PITTSBURGH -- Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Callahan will not be suspended for his hit on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals on Friday night, NHL officials confirmed Saturday.

Callahan sent Letang into the boards with a huge hit that occurred at 2:50 into the first period.

NHL officials also confirmed that not only would Callahan not be suspended, he would not even be fined either.

Letang did return to the game soon after the hit.
