Johansson, MacArthur, Matthews named our 'Three Stars of the Night'

NEW YORK -- UNB! Network NHL/hockey blog "The Neutral Zone" has named Marcus Johansson, Clarke MacArthur, and Auston Matthews as their 'Three Stars of the Night' for all NHL Playoff games taking place on April 23, 2017.

FIRST STAR - MARCUS JOHANSSON, F, WASHINGTON CAPITALS

Johansson scored his second goal of the game at 6:31 of overtime to lead the Capitals to the Second Round. Johansson (62 GP) recorded his first career overtime goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and his second game-winner.

SECOND STAR - CLARKE MacARTHUR, F, OTTAWA SENATORS

MacArthur scored at 6:30 of overtime to help the Senators advance past the opening round for the first time since 2013. The overtime goal was the first of his playoff career and his second postseason game-winner (also May 10, 2013 vs. BOS).

THIRD STAR - AUSTON MATTHEWS, F, TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS

Matthews is the first rookie to score in 4 straight playoff games since Logan Couture in May of 2011.

Clarke MacArthur of Senators to miss rest of season

Ottawa Senators forward Clarke MacArthur will not play this season.

MacArthur, 31, sustained a concussion during training camp but was able to participate in full practices in December. He has not played since Oct. 4, 2015, limited to four games last season.

"Clarke is devastated by this news," general manager Pierre Dorion said Friday. "He felt he didn't have any symptoms, but I think in the long-term of this process we always said that the doctors would decide if Clarke was going to play. They all feel that Clarke should not play this year."

MacArthur, who is on Long Term Injured Reserve, has had post-concussion symptoms for nearly two years but had been steadfast in his desire to return to the lineup this season. He is under contract through 2019-20.

MacArthur has 304 points (133 goals, 171 assists) in 548 NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Atlanta Thrashers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Senators.

Goaltender Craig Anderson could return to the Senators in late January or early February, said Dorion, who added that when Anderson returns, it is expected he will remain with Ottawa for the rest of the season.

Anderson, who last played on Dec. 5, has been with his wife, Nicholle, while she has been undergoing cancer treatments. Anderson is 12-6-1 this season with a 2.46 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.
