Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was placed on injured reserve on Saturday.
Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan on Friday said Letang likely would miss a few weeks because of a lower-body injury.
"It won't be easy [to replace Letang]," Sullivan said. "It will be by committee. We think we have capable people and we'll sort it out. But certainly, he's a tough guy to replace."
Letang leads the Penguins in ice time per game (26:04) this season, and has two goals and 19 points in 25 games. In their first game without him on Friday, the Penguins lost 1-0 in overtime to the Los Angele Kings to end their seven-game winning streak.
The Penguins recalled defenseman Chad Ruhwedel from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. He has three goals and 13 points in 26 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
