NEW YORK - Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist has been suspended for six games, without pay, for high-sticking Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon during NHL Game No. 829 in Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 12, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 14:13 of the first period. Nyquist was assessed a double-minor for high-sticking.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Nyquist will forfeit $158,333.34. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
