The New York Islanders came back from three separate deficits before Brock Nelson (2-1-3) scored the first overtime goal of his career, giving New York a 7-1-2 record in its last 10 games.
* At 23-18-10 (56 points), the Islanders sit three points back of the Flyers (26-21-7, 59 points) for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from in the Eastern Conference. New York holds three games in hand. The teams play in Philadelphia on Thursday.
* The Toronto Maple Leafs took a 5-4 lead with 2:01 remaining in regulation, but Andrew Ladd tied the game 32 seconds later. The Elias Sports Bureau notes that New York, which also tied the game at 2-2 and 4-4, overcame three separate deficits to win for the first time since Oct. 17, 2015 vs. the San Jose Sharks (6-3 W).
* Thomas Greiss (27 saves) improved to 6-1-1 with a 2.23 GAA, .923 SV% and two shutouts in his past eight decisions. He has 11 of his 16 wins this season at Barclays Center (2.42 GAA, .918 SV%, 1 SO).

PLAYOFF RACES CONTINUE TO HEAT UP
The St. Louis Blues (26-22-5, 57 points) and New Jersey Devils (23-21-10, 56 points) earned victories as they compete for wild card spots in the Western and Eastern Conference, respectively:
* Carter Hutton stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Blues reclaimed the second wild card position in the West. Hutton posted his third shutout of the season (23 GP), all in his last six starts; he had four in 76 games from 2012-16.
* Adam Henrique scored a goal on his 27th birthday to extend his point streak to five games (4-3-7) and 19-year-old Pavel Zacha (1-1-2) scored the first game-winning goal of his career as the Devils moved within three points of the Flyers for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Maple Leafs' five goals on Monday were scored by five different rookies: Zach Hyman, Mitchell Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Nikita Soshnikov. Elias notes that it's the first time in franchise history five different rookies scored in the same game; it's also the first time any NHL team has accomplished the feat since March 31, 1984, when Tim Hunter, Rich Kromm, Al MacInnis, Dan Quinn and Carey Wilson all scored for the Calgary Flames in a 10-3 victory against the Minnesota North Stars.

CROSBY NEARS 1,000 POINT MILESTONE
Sidney Crosby (368-629-997 in 752 GP) looks to become the 86th player in NHL history to record 1,000 career points, and the third to do so with the Penguins, when Pittsburgh (33-13-5, 71 points) hosts Calgary (27-25-3, 57 points). Crosby (30-29-59) leads the League in goals and is second in points, one behind Connor McDavid (18-42-60). The Penguins have won three straight games and are tied with the Blue Jackets (33-13-5, 71 points) for second in the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference.
