NEW YORK -- UNB! Network NHL/hockey blog 'The Neutral Zone' has named Nick Leddy, Zdeno Chara, and Brent Burns as their 'Three Stars of the Night' for the National Hockey League games taking place on February 12, 2017.
FIRST STAR - BRENT BURNS, D - SAN JOSE SHARKS
Brent Burns (2-0—2) registered his second multi-goal game of the season to help the Sharks snap a four-game slide (0-1-3). Burns established a Sharks record for most road goals in a season by a defenseman (16), eclipsing his mark of 15 from 2015-16. Burns scored his fifth GWG of 2016-17 to match a Sharks record for most in a season by a defenseman (Bill Houlder in 1998-99). Burns is the first defenseman to score 16 road goals in a season since Kevin Hatcher (17) in 1992-93 (with the Capitals).
SECOND STAR - ZDENO CHARA, D, BOSTON BRUINS
Chara scored the seventh shorthanded goal of his NHL career, tops among active defensemen, helping the Bruins earn their first regular-season home win against Montreal since Jan. 12, 2012 (2-1 W), snapping a nine-game slide (0-7-2).
THIRD STAR - NICK LEDDY, F, NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Leddy (1-2—3) factored on three of five goals as the Islanders improved to 9-2-2 in their last 13 games.
