Defenseman Charlie McAvoy signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins on Monday.
McAvoy, the No. 14 pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, had two points and a plus-3 rating in four games with Providence of the American Hockey League, where he had been playing on an amateur tryout.
McAvoy will practice with the Bruins on Monday and could be in the lineup for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, TVA Sports, SN).
The Bruins could be without defensemen Torey Krug and Brandon Carlo when the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin. Krug sustained a lower-body injury against the Senators on Thursday and Carlo sustained an upper-body injury against the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
