Janmark, 24, missed the 2016-17 season because of a knee injury. He was in the final season of a two-year contract that had an average annual value of $800,000 and could have been a restricted free agent July 1.
"Mattias is a player that we missed as much as anyone last season with the unfortunate injury he suffered," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "We look forward to him returning to our group and getting him back for training camp."
Without Janmark the Stars had 79 points, 15 points behind the Nashville Predators for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Western Conference.
With the Stars in 2015-16 he had 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists), was a plus-12 and had three game-winning goals in 73 games. With his contributions the Stars had the most points in the Western Conference.
Janmark, who was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round (No. 79) of the 2013 NHL Draft, was acquired by the Stars in a trade March 1, 2015.
