Ed Snider, founder of Flyers, dead at 83

"The Neutral Zone" Staff Report

Ed Snider, the founder of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey club, has died. He was 83.

The Flyers said that he died early Monday morning.

The Flyers clinched a playoff berth of Saturday, and the team recently said that they were motivated to win for Snider.

"Our Dad was loved and admired for his big heart, generosity of spirit, and dedication to his family. Despite his considerable business achievements and public profile, he was first and foremost a family man," the Snider family said in a statement. "Unrivaled, however, was his love for the Philadelphia Flyers Hockey Club, the team he created 50 years ago and to which he remained fiercely devoted through his final days."

Snider is survived by his wife Lin, daughters Lindy, Tina and Sarena, sons Craig, Jay and Samuel, and several grandchildren. Snider was married three other times.
