Islanders place PA Parenteau on waivers

Forward PA Parenteau was placed on waivers by the New York Islanders on Monday.

Parenteau, 33, agreed to terms with the Islanders on a one-year contract reportedly worth $1.25 million on July 2 after scoring 20 goals and 41 points for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. He had 120 points playing alongside Islanders center John Tavares from 2010-12.

A ninth-round pick (No. 264) of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2001 NHL Draft, Parenteau has 101 goals and 268 points in 424 NHL games with the Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens and Maple Leafs.

The Islanders open the season against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; MSG, MSG+ 2).
