OTTAWA, ON -- Auston Matthews had possibly the best NHL debut in the league's history on Wednesday night against the Ottawa Senators, scoring four goals in the first two periods.
"I'm just speechless, honestly," Matthews said. "As the periods kept going by you're kind of thinking to yourself you can't really believe this is going on, it's that surreal. There was some good and some bad and we learn from it and continue to move forward."
Matthews, 19, had four goals on six shots in 17:37 of ice time.
Ottawa won the game 5-4 in overtime.
