News & Notes: Panthers take over third place in Atlantic Division

PANTHERS SWEEP FIVE-GAME ROAD TRIP, CLIMB ATLANTIC DIVISION

Vincent Trocheck scored the go-ahead goal with 4.6 seconds remaining in the third period to help the Florida Panthers defeat the St. Louis Blues and conclude their road trip at 5-0-0. Elias notes that Florida swept a road trip of at least five games for the first time in its 24-year history.

* Trocheck scored his second game-winning goal of the season (also Nov. 3 vs. NJD) and extended his point streak to six games (3-5-8). Per Elias, Trocheck (59:55) scored the latest game-winning goal in Panthers history, besting the mark set by Kristian Huselius (59:46) on March 28, 2002 at the Ottawa Senators (4-3 W).

* At 28-20-10 (66 points), the Panthers passed the idle Toronto Maple Leafs (27-20-11, 65 points) and Boston Bruins (30-23-6, 66 points) to move into third place in the Atlantic Division.

* James Reimer (26 saves) has earned wins in his past five decisions and is 8-1-1 in his past 10 games since Dec. 31 (2.01 goals-against average, .933 save percentage).

TOP TWO TEAMS IN WEST SQUARE OFF IN CENTRAL DIVISION SHOWDOWN
The top two teams in the Western Conference square off in a Central Division showdown when the Minnesota Wild (39-13-6, 84 points) play the Chicago Blackhawks (36-18-5, 77 points) at Xcel Energy Center. Elias notes that Chicago, winners of six consecutive road games, aim to match the longest single-season road win streak in its history originally set Dec. 9-29, 1964 (7-0-0). Meanwhile, Minnesota looks to reach the 40-win mark in its 59th game of the season, 12 games fewer than any other season in the franchise's 17-year history (71 GP in 2006-07: 40-24-7, 87 points).

LAINE, JETS FACE MATTHEWS, MAPLE LEAFS FOR SECOND TIME

The top two picks from the 2016 NHL Draft go head-to-head for the second and final time this season when Patrik Laine (28-24-52) and the Jets visit Auston Matthews (28-21-49) and the Maple Leafs. Winnipeg rallied from a 4-0 deficit helped by Laine's first NHL hat trick to defeat Toronto in their first game this season and is 8-0-1 record in its past nine games against the Maple Leafs since March 13, 2013 (TOR: 1-5-3). Laine is one goal shy of tying the Jets/Thrashers record for most in a season by a rookie (Ilya Kovalchuk: 29 in 2001-02), while Matthews needs six to match the Maple Leafs' single-season record (Wendel Clark: 34 in 1985-86).
