SUBBAN EARNS FIRST NHL WIN IN GOLDEN KNIGHTS VICTORY

Making his first start of the season, Malcolm Subban made 21 saves to earn his first career NHL win and help the Golden Knights become the first team in the expansion era – and third in NHL history – to win four of its first five games in its inaugural season.

* Elias notes that the Golden Knights joined the Canadiens (4-1-0 in 1917-18) and Rangers (4-1-0 in 1926-27) as the only franchises in NHL history to record four wins in the opening five games of their inaugural season.

* The Golden Knights, Canadiens, Rangers and 1967-68 Kings (3-0-2) are the only clubs to collect at least eight points through five games in their inaugural season.

* Subban, who fell 30 seconds shy of a shutout, was selected in the first round (24th overall) by the Bruins in 2012 and played two games with the club before being claimed on waivers by the Golden Knights on Oct. 3.

KINGS CONTINUE STRONG START TO THE SEASON

Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty each collected 1-1—2 to help the Kings push their record to 4-0-1, marking the fourth time in club history that Los Angeles has opened a season with at least one point in five consecutive games. Doughty scored the game-winning goal for the second time in as many nights after notching only one such tally in 2016-17 (82 GP).

KUCHEROV LOOKS TO EXTEND SCORING STREAK AS LIGHTNING VISIT RED WINGS

Nikita Kucherov, who has scored in all five of Tampa Bay’s games this season, leads the Lightning (4-1-0) into Detroit to face the Red Wings (4-1-0) in their first-ever visit to Little Caesars Arena. Elias notes that only three players in the past 30 years have scored a goal in at least six consecutive team games to begin a season – Steve Yzerman in 1988-89 w/ DET (6-5—11 in 6 GP), Mario Lemieux in 1992-93 w/ PIT (18-20—38 in 12 GP) and Keith Tkachuk in 2008-09 w/ STL (7-0—7 in 6 GP).
