NHL Morning Skate – Oct. 26, 2017

WEDNESDAY’S RESULTS

Home Team in Caps

ST. LOUIS 5, Calgary 2
COLUMBUS 5, Buffalo 1

STEEN PROPELS BLUES TO 7-2-1 RECORD

Alexander Steen (1-3—4) factored on four of five goals to propel the Blues to a 7-2-1 record. St. Louis’ seven wins through its first 10 games of the season are one shy of the highest such total in franchise history (8-1-1 in 2002-03).

* Jaden Schwartz scored to extend his point streak to five contests (5-2—7) and has collected at least one point in nine of his 10 games this season. He ranks third in the NHL with 7-7—14 overall, trailing only Steven Stamkos (3-17—20) and Nikita Kucherov (11-6—17).

* Alex Pietrangelo scored and leads all blueliners with 4-8—12 this season (10 GP). His 12 points are one shy of the franchise record for most by a defenseman through the first 10 games of a season.

BOBROVSKY BACKSTOPS BLUE JACKETS PAST SABRES

Five different Blue Jackets found the back of the net and Sergei Bobrovsky made 34 saves to backstop Columbus to a 6-3-0 record, matching their best nine-game start to a season in franchise history (also 6-3-0 in 2009-10 and 2010-11).

* Bobrovsky – who captured his second career Vezina Trophy in 2016-17 – improved to 5-2-0 this season with a 2.00 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and one shutout.

LIGHTNING DUO LOOK TO CONTINUE STREAKING START

Steven Stamkos (3-17—20) and Nikita Kucherov (11-6—17) both aim to extend their season-opening point streaks to 11 games when the Lightning host the Red Wings at Amalie Arena. Via Elias, there are only six instances in NHL history of teammates beginning a season on simultaneous point streaks of at least 11 games.

* The Lightning (8-1-1, 17 points) are off to their best 10-game start to a season in franchise history.
