KEMPE NETS HAT TRICK TO HELP KINGS EXTEND SEASON-OPENING POINT STREAK
Adrian Kempe (3-1—4) scored three times in the third period to net the first hat trick of his NHL career and help the Kings push their record to 5-0-1 (11 points), their highest-ever point total through the first six games of a season. Los Angeles – the only team without a regulation loss in 2017-18 – has opened a season with at least one point in six consecutive games for the third time in franchise history.
* Kempe, the 29th overall selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, became the first Kings rookie to score a hat trick since Vitali Yachmenev on March 2, 1996 vs. MTL (3-0—3) and the first to post four points in a game since Rob Blake on March 16, 1991 at CGY (2-2—4).
MAPLE LEAFS STRIKE EARLY TO IMPROVE TO 6-1-0
The Maple Leafs scored four goals on their first five shots en route to their third consecutive win and a 6-1-0 record overall. The Maple Leafs have won six of their first seven games in a season for the seventh time in franchise history.
* The Maple Leafs scored at least six goals in a game for the third time this season (7-2 W on Oct. 4 at WPG and 8-5 W on Oct. 7 vs. NYR). Toronto leads the NHL with 34 goals overall, seven more than the next-closest clubs (CHI and TBL: 27).
* Auston Matthews (1-1—2) has collected at least one point in six of his first seven games this season (6-4—10). Matthews has also scored six times in five career games vs. DET (6-2—8).
* Patrick Marleau skated in his 1,500th career NHL game, becoming the 18th player in League history to reach the milestone. Marleau joined Flames forward Jaromir Jagr (1,714) as the only active players to appear in 1,500 career games.
SCHWARTZ (HAT TRICK) POWERS BLUES TO VICTORY

SNEAK PEEK AT THURSDAY’S ACTION
MULTIPLE PLAYERS LOOK TO CONTINUE IMPRESSIVE STARTS
Thursday’s schedule features nine games with multiple players looking to build on active streaks and impressive starts:
* Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov – who is just the sixth player in the NHL’s modern era (since 1943-44) to score a goal in at least seven consecutive team games to begin a season – looks to push his season-opening streak to eight. Only three players in the modern era have scored a goal in at least eight consecutive team games to begin a season – Wayne Gretzky in 1983-84 (11-10—21 in 8 GP), Mike Bossy in 1984-85 (17-15—32 in 10 GP) and Mario Lemieux in 1992-93 (18-20—38 in 12 GP).
* Lightning forward Steven Stamkos – who is tied with Kucherov for the League lead with 12 points (2-10—12) – has recorded at least a point in each of Tampa Bay’s first seven games, including four multi-point efforts. The franchise record for longest point streak to begin a season is 11 games, achieved in 2009-10 by Martin St. Louis (3-12—15).
* Devils defenseman Will Butcher (0-9—9 in 6 GP) – the first rookie defenseman in NHL history to record at least nine assists in his first six career games and just the third rookie blueliner in NHL history to collect at least nine points in his first six career games – looks to extend his assist/point streak to five games (0-6—6 in last 4 GP). The most points by a rookie defenseman through his first seven career games is 16, achieved in 1917-18 by Harry Cameron of the Toronto Arenas (10-6—16).
* Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad has recorded six goals in his first seven games of the 2017-18 season (6-2—8 in 7 GP), including a League-leading four game-winning goals to match his total from 2016-17 (4 GWG in 82 GP). The fewest games played to record five game-winning goals in a season is nine, a mark set in 1928-29 by Nels Stewart of the Montreal Maroons.
* Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta – who has recorded 2-5—7 this season (7 GP) to match his point total from 2016-17 (1-6—7 in 55 GP) – looks to extend his career-high point streak to six games (1-5—6 in last 5 GP).
