KUCHEROV, STAMKOS, VASILEVSKIY EXTEND STREAKS IN LIGHTNING WIN
Nikita Kucherov (1-1—2) and Steven Stamkos (1-0—1) extended their season-opening point streaks to 11 games to help the Lightning improve to 9-1-1 (19 points), their best 11-game start to a season in franchise history. Kucherov and Stamkos matched the franchise record for longest point streak to begin a season, a mark set by Martin St. Louis in 2009-10 (3-12—15 in 11 GP).

* Elias notes that Stamkos (4-17—21) and Kucherov (12-7—19) – who rank first and second, respectively, in League scoring – became the seventh set of teammates in NHL history (first since 1992-93) to begin a season on simultaneous point streaks of at least 11 games. Since the start of last season, Stamkos has recorded at least one point in 23 of 28 games played (13-28—41), while Kucherov has 52-52—104 in 85 games during that span.

* Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves to improve to 9-1-0 this season (2.20 GAA, .936 SV%, 1 SO) and extend his career-high win streak to eight games, matching the longest such run by a goaltender in franchise history.

QUICK SHINES IN 500TH CAREER GAME, KINGS MOVE TO 8-1-1
Playing in his 500th career NHL game, Jonathan Quick turned aside all 40 shots he faced to record his 46th career shutout and backstop the Kings to an 8-1-1 record. Los Angeles equaled its best 10-game start to a season in franchise history (also 8-1-1 in 1980-81).

* Quick became the first goaltender in franchise history and the seventh American-born goaltender in NHL history to appear in 500 games. Quick also extended his NHL record for most shutouts by an American-born goaltender.
VRBATA’S HAT TRICK POWERS PANTHERS TO EIGHT-GOAL OUTBURST

Radim Vrbata netted his seventh career hat trick with his first three goals in a Florida uniform to spark the Panthers to their first eight-goal game since Jan. 10, 2009 (8-4 W vs. ATL) and eighth in franchise history.

* Owen Tippett, the 10th overall selection in the 2017 NHL Draft, scored his first career goal to become the third member of his draft class to score this season, joining Nico Hischier (No. 1) and Nolan Patrick (No. 2).

* Did You Know? Through the first 23 days of the 2017-18 season (148 GP), there have been 12 hat tricks and four instances of a team scoring at least eight goals in a game.

KESSEL HITS MILESTONE WITH SECOND STRAIGHT OVERTIME GOAL
Phil Kessel scored the 300th goal of his NHL career at 1:07 of overtime to lift the Penguins to a 7-3-1 record. Elias notes that Kessel – who also scored in overtime of Pittsburgh’s game Tuesday vs. EDM – became the second player in franchise history to score an overtime goal in consecutive team games, joining Aleksey Morozov (March 19-21, 2004).

* The Penguins have won 17 consecutive home games against the Jets/Thrashers dating to March 24, 2007 (WPG: 0-13-4).

SNEAK PEEK AT FRIDAY’S ACTION
GOLDEN KNIGHTS LOOK TO CONTINUE HISTORIC START

The Golden Knights (7-1-0, 14 points), who are the only club in the 100-year history of the NHL to begin its inaugural season with wins in seven of its first eight games, aim for a fifth consecutive victory when they host the Avalanche in a Nevada Day matinee at T-Mobile Arena. Elias notes that the Golden Knights, who are closing their first-ever homestand (5-1-0 so far), can match the longest win streak by a team at any point in its inaugural season – the 1926-27 Rangers and 1979-80 Oilers each won five consecutive games in their first campaigns.
