Recaps of last night's NHL games

SHARKS 4, STARS 3 (OT)

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Tomas Hertl scored 1:12 into overtime against former teammate Antti Niemi to lead the San Jose Sharks to their fifth straight win, 4-3 over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored twice and Chris Tierney also scored to give San Jose three straight home wins for the first time since last January. Martin Jones made 32 saves and earned his career-high 20th win.

Ales Hemsky, Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza scored for the slumping Stars, who have lost six of seven overall and seven straight on the road.

Niemi made 35 saves in his return to San Jose. Niemi was the starting goalie for the Sharks for five seasons before being dealt to Dallas last June. He got a nice ovation and a video tribute in his first game as a visitor in the Shark Tank since the 2010 Western Conference finals with Chicago.

BRUINS 3, MAPLE LEAFS 2 (OT)

BOSTON (AP) Brad Marchand scored with 47 seconds left in the third period to lift Boston over Toronto.

Patrice Bergeron scored twice for Boston and Tuukka Rask finished with 26 saves as the Bruins extended Toronto's losing streak to five straight.

Rask got some help when teammate Torey Krug was in the crease to stop a shot by Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, who beat Rask to a loose puck and had the Boston goalie well out of position in the final few minutes. Krug stopped the puck as Rask scrambled to get back into position with the score still tied at 2-all.

Marchand broke the tie with a snap shot past Jonathan Bernier, who stopped 42 shots for the Maple Leafs.

BLUES 4, CANADIENS 3 (OT)

ST. LOUIS (AP) Jori Lehtera scored 2:04 into overtime, Brian Elliott made a career-high 46 saves and St. Louis Blues beat Montreal.

Ty Rattie tied the game with 5:25 left for St. Louis, and Robby Fabbri and Paul Stastny also scored. The Blues have won three of four after enduring a five-game losing streak.

P.K. Subban, Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec scored for Montreal, and Mike Condon finished with 18 saves.

The Canadiens have lost three straight and four of their last five. They are 5-15 since Dec. 1.

SENATORS 5, KINGS 3

LOS ANGELES (AP) Mika Zibanejad broke a tie on a power play with 6:50 to play and Ottawa roared back from a two-goal deficit in the third period.

Bobby Ryan and Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored 26 seconds apart earlier in the third as the Senators stunned the Pacific Division leaders and All-Star goalie Jonathan Quick with three goals in just over five minutes.

Alex Chiasson also scored, Mark Borowiecki added an empty-net goal and Craig Anderson stopped 30 shots for Ottawa. The Senators won for the third time in nine games.

Zibanejad set up Ryan's goal with a sharp pass before putting the Senators ahead during a four-minute power play created by Nick Shore's high-sticking penalty.

Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli and Vincent Lecavalier scoored for the Kings. Quick made 18 saves while losing in regulation for the first time in 11 starts since Dec. 14.

SABRES 4, CAPITALS 1

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Evander Kane had a goal and an assist, Chad Johnson stopped 33 shots and Buffalo beat Washington to hand goalie Braden Holtby a rare loss.

Phil Varone, Tim Schaller and Cody Franson also scored for Buffalo, which snapped a six-game home losing streak and has now won three of four overall.

Marcus Johansson ruined Johnson's shutout bid 2:54 into the third period with an unassisted goal. The Sabres' goalie got his first win since Dec. 26.

The Sabres chased Holtby in the second period after he gave up three goals on 16 shots, emphatically ending his run of 23 games without a loss in regulation. Holtby was 20-0-2 since a Nov. 10 loss to Detroit. That stretch included a Capitals win over Tampa Bay on Dec. 18 in which he was pulled midway through the second period trailing 3-0.

The loss also snaps Washington's five-game winning streak.

PREDATORS 3, WILD 0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Backup Carter Hutton made 29 saves for his third career shutout and Nashville beat Minnesota to end a five-game losing streak.

Hutton made his first home start of the season and stopped 25 shots over the first two periods before Nashville's defence locked down Minnesota in the third. He was filling in for Pekka Rinne after the All-Star lost his last four starts.

Eric Nystrom, Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg scored for Nashville.

Minnesota lost its fourth straight. Goalie Devan Dubnyk made 22 saves on 24 shots.

BLUE JACKETS 2, AVALANCHE 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Jack Johnson scored with 1:07 left off Colorado forward Cody McLeod's skate to give the Columbus a victory.

The Blue Jackets had multiple chances at a go-ahead score late but needed help from McLeod to finally put a second goal past Calvin Pickard.

Brandon Dubinsky slapped a shot past Pickard 58 seconds into the first for his ninth goal of the year.

The Avalanche tied it at 6:02 of the second on rookie forward Chris Wagner's fourth goal of the season. He redirected a shot by Jarome Iginla that trickled under the right leg of goaltender Joonas Korpisalo.

Korpisalo made 29 saves and got his third career victory. Pickard stopped 19 shots.

RANGERS 3, FLYERS 2 (SO)

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Mats Zuccarello scored in a shootout and Henrik Lundqvist reached 20 wins for the 11th straight season in New York's victory over Philadelphia.

Lundqvist made 36 saves and improved to 20-12-4. He is the only goaltender in NHL history to have won 20 games in each of his first 11 seasons and joins Martin Brodeur and Tony Esposito as the only goalies who have won 20 games in 11 straight seasons.

Chris Kreider and J.T. Miller scored in regulation for the Rangers, and Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds countered for the Flyers.

DEVILS 2, COYOTES 0

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Cory Schneider made 38 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, leading New Jersey past Arizona.

Selected as an All-Star for the first time in his career, Schneider is 12-6-2 in 20 starts on the road this season. Reid Boucher scored early in the first period, and Kyle Palmieri added his team-leading 18th goal 18 seconds into the third period.

OILERS 2, FLAMES 1

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Teddy Purcell scored in the shootout to lift Edmonton over Calgary.

Mark Fayne scored in regulation for the Oilers, who snapped a four-game skid and won at home against Calgary for the first time in their last eight meetings here. Cam Talbot had 31 saves.
