New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano, New Jersey Devils coach John Hynes and Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan were among five assistants named Friday to the staff of Team USA for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Nashville Predators assistant coach Phil Housley Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League coach Scott Gordon, were also named assistants to Team USA coach John Tortorella.
"I'm looking forward to working with our coaching staff in guiding the group of players that are ultimately selected to represent our country in the World Cup," Tortorella, coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets, said in a release by USA Hockey. "We have a group of coaches assembled that all bring something different to the table and that is a real positive as we move toward our ultimate goal of winning the tournament."
Hynes, in his first season as an NHL coach, has the Devils contending for their first playoff berth since they reached the 2012 Stanley Cup Final.
"We're extremely pleased with the coaching staff we've assembled," said Dean Lombardi, general manager of Team USA and the Los Angeles Kings. "It's a group that not only brings great experience on multiple levels, but is in lock step with where we're going and how we're going to get there."
The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will take place at Air Canada Centre in Toronto from September 17 to October 1.
