BLACKHAWKS 5, CANADIENS 2
CHICAGO (AP) The Chicago Blackhawks matched a franchise record with their 11th straight victory, using two goals from Jonathan Toews to beat the slumping Montreal Canadiens 5-2 on Sunday night.
Marian Hossa had an empty-net goal and two assists for Chicago, and Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist. Richard Panik scored his first goal of the season, and Corey Crawford, a Montreal native, made 27 saves while improving to 5-0-2 in seven career starts against his hometown team.
The Blackhawks (31-13-4) also won 11 straight from Feb. 15 to March 6, 2013, and then went on to the second of three Stanley Cup titles in the past six seasons. The defending NHL champions, who won 2-1 at Montreal on Thursday night, go for 12 in a row at Nashville on Tuesday night.
Montreal (23-19-4) has lost four in a row and five of six. The Canadiens also dropped to 6-15-2 since star goaltender Carey Price was shelved by a lower-body injury in November.
CAPITALS 5, RANGERS 2
WASHINGTON (AP) - Justin Williams had a hat trick and Washington survived the loss of starting goaltender Braden Holtby to extend its impressive streak of responding after losses by beating New York.
The Capitals improved to 10-0-1 after a loss this season and this time did so after Holtby left with dehydration. Philipp Grubauer replaced Holtby late in the second period and stopped all 11 shots he faced.
Holtby made 20 saves and got the victory, less than 24 hours after he was pulled during a clunker of a loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
Alex Ovechkin scored his 27th goal of the season, and Marcus Johansson also scored on the power play for Washington.
Chris Kreider scored both goals for the Rangers, and backup Antti Raanta made 19 saves in his first start since Dec. 17.
PENGUINS 5, HURRICANES 0
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Sidney Crosby scored two goals, Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 22 shots for his third shutout of the season and 41st of his career and Pittsburgh beat Carolina.
Penguins defenseman Trevor Daley scored his third of the season in his 800th NHL game. Olli Maatta scored his fifth and Conor Sheary his second for the Penguins, who are one of several teams in the hunt for a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh won for just the second time in six games, but the Penguins picked up points for the 10th time in 12 games.
The Penguins also ended a three-game winless stretch against Carolina, which defeated them twice in the last month, including an overtime loss on Tuesday.
Carolina lost its second straight after a recent four-game winning streak. The Hurricanes, following an overtime loss against Vancouver on Friday, had at least a point in their last five games.
KINGS 3, DUCKS 2
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist, Vincent Lecavalier added a power-play goal and Los Angeles opened the Freeway Faceoff rivalry series for the season with a victory over Anaheim.
Tyler Toffoli scored and Jonathan Quick made 30 saves for the Kings, who beat their Southern California archrivals in regulation for the first time in 11 regular-season meetings.
David Perron scored in his first game with Anaheim, but the Ducks lost in regulation for just the third time in 11 games since Christmas. Rickard Rakell also scored, and John Gibson stopped 23 shots in a duel of All-Star goalies.
The Kings and Ducks didn't meet until the 44th game of their respective seasons, but they'll face off four more times before the postseason.
LIGHTNING 3, PANTHERS 1
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Nikita Kucherov had two goals and Tampa Bay extended a season-high winning streak to five games by beating Atlantic Division-leading Florida.
Andrej Sustr had the other Tampa Bay goal and Ben Bishop made 26 saves to help the Lightning move within five points of Florida. Bishop is 7-1-1 against the Panthers.
Nick Bjugstad scored for the Panthers. Florida is 0-2-1 since ending a 12-game winning streak. Roberto Luongo made 29 saves and became the seventh goalie to play in 900 NHL games.
CANUCKS 2, ISLANDERS 1
NEW YORK (AP) - Ryan Miller made 47 saves and Radim Vrbata scored in the shootout, leading Vancouver to a 2-1 win over New York.
Ben Hutton scored for the Canucks in regulation.
Despite receiving an 25-save effort from Jaroslav Halak, the Islanders' fell to 24-15-6 as their two-game winning streak came to an end.
Ryan Strome scored for New York.
New York entered the day third in the Metropolitan Division despite having the same amount of points (53) and the same record (24-15-5) as the second place New York Rangers. The Rangers are in second place because they have one more regulation and overtime win (22-21).
FLYERS 2, RED WINGS 1, SO
DETROIT (AP) - Claude Giroux scored in a shootout and in regulation, lifting Philadelphia over Detroit.
Jakub Voracek also scored in the shootout and Michal Neuvirth denied two Detroit shooters.
Pavel Datsyuk was the only Red Wing to get the puck past Neuvirth in one-on-one duels. Neuvirth stopped 29 shots before the shootout.
Giroux pulled Philadelphia into a 1-all tie early in the third.
Detroit's Brendan Smith was called for hooking with 4.8 seconds left in regulation. The Flyers had a goal waved off after the ensuing faceoff because a leaping Wayne Simmonds was called for goalie interference.
