The Ducks have signed defenseman Jeff Schultz to a one-year, two-way contract through the 2016-17 NHL season. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Schultz, 30 (2/25/86), has scored 11-65=76 points with a +78 rating and 137 penalty minutes (PIM) in 409 career NHL games with Washington and Los Angeles. He has also made six trips to the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Capitals and Kings, earning one assist (0-1=1) and 14 PIM in 36 games. In 2009-10, the 6-6, 217-pound defenseman became the first Washington player to lead the NHL in plus/minus with a +50 rating. He also recorded career bests in points (3-20=23), assists and games played in the same season with the Capitals.
Selected by Washington in the first round (27th overall) of the 2004 NHL Draft, Schultz posted 3-15=18 points with a +17 rating in 66 games with the Los Angeles Kings’ American Hockey League (AHL) development affiliate in Ontario last season. He added 1-3=4 points with two PIM in 13 Calder Cup Playoff games, helping the Reign to the 2016 Western Conference Final vs. Lake Erie. The Calgary, Alberta native also made one appearance with the Kings in his 2015-16 season debut on Oct. 7, 2015 vs. San Jose.
