TORONTO – Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello provided an update today on the status of injured goaltender Frederik Andersen. Andersen is expected to be out for 3-4 weeks after sustaining an upper body injury on Friday, Sept. 2 in a pre-Olympic qualifying game between Denmark and Slovenia.
Andersen, 26, is expected to be ready for the start of the 2016-17 NHL season but will not participate for Team Europe in the World Cup of Hockey 2016.
The Herning, Denmark native posted a 22-9-7 record with a .919 save percentage and a 2.30 goals against average with the Anaheim Ducks in 2015-16.
On June 20, the Maple Leafs acquired Andersen from the Ducks in exchange for the 30th overall selection from the 2016 NHL Entry Draft (originally acquired by Toronto from Pittsburgh) and a second round selection from the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
Andersen was drafted 87th overall in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Ducks.
